Welcome To New Jersey: Jasper Chinese Restaurant
After much planning, I finally arrived in New Jersey on December 30th, 2012. The celebratory dinner took place at Jasper Chinese Restaurant. I've eaten here several times. Jasper serves authentic Cantonese cooking - something I love, given that I grew up in Hong Kong.
We had an excellent steamed sea bass in a simple soy sauce gravy. It was moist, delicious and extremely fresh. We focused on finishing it off as it doesn't reheat well.
The second dish we shared was bitter melon with beef. Bitter melon is appropriately named. In the Chinese community, it is known for its' herbal qualities. The strong, bitter flavor was excellently balanced by the thin cuts of beef in black bean sauce.
